Open Education: Global

As an extension of activities started during OLC Accelerate 2019, a community of practice began to form around collaboration in open education globally. As a first step, we decided it would be valuable to collect and take inspiration from other global collaborations focused on openness in education. To start that process, we have established a living collection of such collaborations that we welcome others to contribute to going forward.

To suggest a collaboration to add to the collection, contact Nate Angell with a link to the collaboration and a brief note about why you think it would be good to include.

So as not to duplicate substantial efforts already collected, we focus here on collaborations that are specifically global in scope, and that focus specifically on openness in education. There are certainly many collaborations that are more local or regional, and/or that focus on openness in other fields beyond education collected elsewhere, including by some of the collaborations included in this collection (like the OER World Map).

We see a few commonalities among the collaborations in the collection so far. They fall into three large categories, but there may be more types to come as the collection grows.

  1. Major global open education organizations
  2. Education events with a focus on openness
  3. More focused open education communities that foster global membership
